Description

Essex Rotary are now offering all 3 options of non stock Rotor bearings for use with your engine builds.
We have been asked by customers to supply the other sizes so thought it a great idea to offer all 3 here.

The three sizes are as follows

  • N3A3 – Undersize3mm +.005 to +.0025mm Bearing Thickness (This may give less clearance than stock) – BLACK Marked Bearing
  • N3A2 – Oversize– 3mm -.000 to -.005mm Bearing Thickness (This may give more clearance than stock) – GREEN Marked Bearing
  • N3A1 – Extra Oversize – 3mm -.005 to -.010mm Bearing Thickness (This will give more clearance than stock) – YELLOW Marked Bearing

Understanding bearing clearance

Stock bearing thickness is approx 3mm as a result if you used the N3A1 Bearings the thickness of the bearing would be between 2.995mm and 2.990mm giving a greater oil clearance between the rotor journals on the eccentric shaft and the rotor bearing face.

On the flip side if you need tighter clearances or your eccentric shaft journals are a little worn, then you could go for the N3A3 bearings that have a thickness of 3.0025mm to 3.005mm these would give a tighter clearance between your rotor journal and the bearing face.

Always measure your rotor journals on the e-shaft if your looking to optimise clearance. We do also offer the stock bearing and the competition bearings on the shop these offer totally stock clearance and the competition MFR (Mazda factory Race) bearings offer even more clearance along with a deeper oil groove.

If your playing it safe and do not have the equipment to measure your bearing clearance then we would recommend going for the N3A1 bearings to give best clearance. Please select your options from the drop down meny.

Genuine Mazda Rotor Bearings
These are the standard rotor bearings for RX-7 FD3s and all model RX-8’s and provide the greatest clearance before going to a race bearing, This should mean clearance issues will not be an issue with your rebuild when using these.

These bearings are sold as a pair (2 bearings) so one for each rotor.

These bearings can be used on earlier engines such as FC and FB for example, as long as clearances are checked.
